CALL FOR PAPERS

The Cuban Diaspora Film Archive (CDfA), in association with FIU’s Department of Modern Languages and Cuban Research Institute, presents the First International symposium about the cinemas of the Cuban Diaspora.

Possible topics include:

• Representations of the Diaspora in Cuban Cinema
• From the national to the transnational
• Cuban independent cinema and Diasporic filmmaking
• From historical exile to contemporary diaspora
• Cuban cinema and the other Latin American Diasporas
• Nostalgia, melancholy, and loss in the culture of the diaspora
• Diasporic cinema and the new cultural configurations of Cuban identity
• The experience of the diaspora in literature and film
• From nationhood to personhood in Cuban cinema
• Cinematic representations of the Caribbean Diasporas

We invite submissions for presentations of up to 20 minutes. Please send proposals of no more than 300 words and a brief biographical note to Eliecer Jiménez Almeida (ikaik.films@gmail.com) or Santiago Juan-Navarro (navarros@fiu.edu) by Oct 16, 2024

The conference will be held online via Zoom on November 7, 2024. There are no fees for presenting and/or participating in the conference.
